Black rice has always been the favorite topic of conversation among foodies. Some suggest staying away, while others call it a daily staple in our diets. Some even guide switching to healthier options like red rice, brown rice, etc. However, “forbidden rice” is in high demand among the more nutritious choices.

Yes, you heard right.

Black rice used to be named forbidden rice. It dates back to antique China, where the Chinese ate a black rice variant. They ate it for the kidneys, stomach and liver. But soon, some Chinese nobles confiscated these grains and stopped public consumption. Later, it became the upper classes and elites in limited quantities and under control. Citizens were not allowed to eat it, hence the name forbidden rice.

Over time, it has become popular in all walks of life. In India, it is mainly grown in the Northeast (Chaka Hao) and Southern (Kavain in Tamil) regions of India. As a result, it has countless health benefits. Here are the five welfares of black rice.

 1. Rich In Antioxidants

It contains the total amount of antioxidants of any rice variety. The jet black or purple-blue of black rice indicates its antioxidant properties. In addition, the outermost layer of the  grain contains large amounts of an antioxidant called anthocyanin. It helps us to prevent cardiovascular disease, helps to better brain function, and helps to reduce inflammation.

 2. Good Source Of Fiber

Each half cup of black rice contains three grams of fiber. The rich fiber content helps regulate bowel movements, preventing constipation, diarrheic and gas. Fiber also helps bind toxins and waste in the digestive tract and eliminates them once the digestive cycle is complete. Wool is also suitable for helping you stop gorging on fatty foods as you feel full after eating them.

 3. Prevents The Risk Of Obesity

If anyone is suffering from obesity, then black rice is an excellent choice to reduce it because it contains a lot of fiber and helps us prevent overeating.

 4. Acts As A Natural Detoxifier

In the age of junk food and binge eating, natural detoxification helps prevent various diseases. Black rice is a rich source of phytonutrients, a natural detoxifier, scavenging the body of disease-causing free radicals.

 5. Improves Heart Health

Black rice has more fiber and less fat, both important for heart health. Fiber helps eliminate excess cholesterol and lower blood pressure, while low fat and cholesterol levels help prevent various heart diseases.
